What is ASB Anti-Social Behaviour |
||
|
Afternoon.
Information link to what is ASB https://www.westmidlands.police.uk/advice/advice-and-information/asb/asb/antisocial-behaviour/what-is-antisocial-behaviour/
While anti-social behaviour (ASB) is often described as behaviour that causes "harassment, alarm, or distress," the West Midlands Police (WMP) and partners frequently use WMnow to clarify when these actions officially cross the line into criminal offences.
🚨 When ASB Becomes a Crime
According to WMP official guidance, several common "nuisances" are actually reportable crimes: Threats and Intimidation: Any behaviour that is threatening, offensive, or indecent should be reported as a crime, not just ASB. Vandalism: Intentional damage to your home or private property is a criminal act. Harassment: If unwanted behaviour happens two times or more and makes you feel scared or distressed, it can be prosecuted under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997. Dangerous Vehicles: While "nuisance" parking is often for the council, speeding, dangerous driving, or the illegal use of off-road bikes are criminal matters. Drugs: Any activity involving illegal drugs or drug dealing is a crime that requires police intervention.
📝 WMnow Sample Messages (ASB Focus) These samples reflect the tone and content of recent community alerts: Youth Intervention: "Dudley North Neighbourhood Team are aware of ongoing reports of anti-social behaviour... One youth has been identified by CCTV and a Stage 1 ASB Warning letter has been issued". Aggressive Nuisance: "Officers arrested a male tonight... for criminal damage to a vehicle. Some of the behaviour displayed including throwing fireworks isn't acceptable and we won't tolerate it". Community Reporting: "We have launched a new campaign – Action on ASB – to capture thoughts and concerns about antisocial behaviour in local communities... Feedback will directly inform the approach taken by West Midlands Police".
📞 How to Report in the West Midlands Immediate Danger: Call 999 if you feel threatened or a crime is in progress. Non-Emergency: Use the WMP Live Chat or call 101 for persistent ASB that isn't an immediate threat. Public Transport: Text "SeeSay" and details to 81018 to report ASB on buses or trains via the Safer Travel campaign.
